~ Documenting the voices unheard ~
The oldest recorded language dates back nearly 5,000 years ago. Since then, language has been a critical pillar in every single culture, family, and interaction. Whether it be English, Russian, Chinese, or even Egyptian, every language carries a unique story that can only be carried by its speakers.
Welcome
Out of 7,000 languages spoken across the world, nearly 3,000 of them are endangered.
Our Mission
-
Our primary goal is to create a large archive dedicated to resources for endangered languages, whether it be created by us or others. Documenting endangered languages using an online, computer-centered platform is an extremely potent way of tracking the lexicon, as well as other aspects like morphology and phonetics. Every month, we document another endangered language and create resources for others to learn and explore.
-
One of the best ways to communicate with others is by simply talking with them. As trivial as that might sound, our mission focuses on language elicitation with native speakers in order to discover the true depth behind a language. Through conversation and exchanges, we want to create authentic resources from people who know the language best.
-
Reaching out to the community is a critical aspect of our mission. We wish to help those close to us and uncover the underrated and underappreciated languages in our cities and counties.
